Evolving our customer and patient strategy

We are excited to share programs we are developing to benefit you and your patients, while remaining true to what has always driven us—offering industry-leading innovation, investing to grow the contact lens market, providing access to affordable products, and offering education and advocacy—all while working to advance vision care. We will replace Unilateral Pricing Policy (UPP) with a new state-of-the-art rewards program to further improve patient affordability and help patient retention.

 

This is a market-first, digitally enabled patient incentive and reward program that will be simple and convenient. Here are some highlights:

  • It will allow patients to buy and submit rewards from their mobile phone before they even leave your office

  • It is available for nearly all of your ACUVUE® Brand patients, including ACUVUE OASYS® Brand Contact Lenses, 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST Brand Contact Lenses, 1-DAY ACUVUE® TruEye® Brand Contact Lenses, and 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE® Brand Contact Lenses

  • It will reimburse your patients in less than 2 weeks—up to 5 times faster than the industry standard

We continue to set the pace to preserve the important doctor-patient relationship, and ensure access to innovation in the vision care marketplace. This includes our ongoing efforts at the state and federal levels to preserve important patient safeguards, such as upholding the current one-year prescription expiration date, and the inclusion of brand names on prescriptions. It also includes our efforts to address critical issues with the existing outdated passive verification process.

Access & Affordability

Today, a majority of patients are paying less for their ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses than they were 2 years ago—and the company’s new efforts will help ensure patients continue to have access to the solutions they need.

  • Increased ACUVUE® Brand access provides the opportunity for patients to purchase lenses with the help of their eye care professional
  • In 2014, we invested $60 million to lower the cost of our products to all of our customers and to help level the cost of our products across customers—resulting in lower prices for the majority of ACUVUE® Brand patients, greater pricing transparency, and improved patient retention
  • These lower and stabilized prices stay intact, even with the discontinuation of UPP

Why are we replacing UPP?

We are discontinuing UPP in order to renew and continue our commitment to advocate for the doctor-patient relationship and against legislation that threatens to deregulate the industry and undermine patient health.

We introduced UPP in 2014, and today a majority of patients are paying less for their ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses than two years ago. Since 2014, there have also been significant legal and legislative challenges to UPP across the country that are distracting our focus on emerging issues that could lead to deregulation of contact lenses. Proponents of deregulation advocate for harmful policies, such as online prescribing of contact lenses and extending contact lens prescription expiration limits. Opposing these efforts requires our undivided attention. 

Our new ACUVUE® Rewards Program replaces UPP and provides similar benefits—affordability, access, and patient retention.
